Position Summary

The Punch Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Amada punch press machines to produce precision sheet metal components in accordance with work orders, blueprints, and quality standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Amada CNC punch press machines to produce metal parts according to production schedules and specifications.

  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, and part drawings to determine proper machine setup and material requirements.

  • Install and align tools, dies, and fixtures; verify alignment using precision measuring instruments.

  • Monitor machine operation to ensure consistent product quality and make necessary adjustments to speed, feed, and tooling.

  • Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.

  • Maintain accurate records of production counts, scrap, and downtime.

  • Conduct basic machine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and routine inspection of mechanical components.

  • Troubleshoot common mechanical or programming issues on Amada equipment and communicate major problems to the supervisor.

  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.

  • Assist team members with material handling, secondary operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating Amada or equivalent CNC punch press equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part drawings, and work instructions.

  • Familiarity with tooling setup, punch press programming, and sheet metal fabrication.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication tolerances.

  • Experience with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.

  • Basic computer and MRP system skills preferred.

  • Must be able to stand, lift, bend, and move materials up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
