P OSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, an entry-level Facilities Technician at the Port of Hueneme, you will be responsible for assisting in the upkeep and maintenance of the Port infrastructure and equipment. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient operation of our facility, contributing to the smooth flow of maritime activities and cargo handling.

E SSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the Position Description the Facilities Technician I will perform the following essential duties and related duties as may be assigned.

  1. Routine Maintenance :

o Assist in performing routine inspections and maintenance on Port infrastructure such as docks, and warehouses.

o Broom, magnet, and pressure sweeping/washing sidewalks, parking lots, office fronts and along bull rails.

o Trash and debris pickup in water around floating docks and along rip rap embankment. o Tools and equipment maintenance checks.

o Complete assigned preventative maintenance tasks on a monthly basis. o Shadow and learn from Facilities Technician II

  1. Facilities Tasks:

o Operates safely a variety of hand, power, and shop tools and equipment.

o Assist in patching and repairing road surfaces.

o Assist in painting road markings and installing signs.

o Install replacement parts on fixtures and machinery.

o Assist in pile driving.

o Assist in maintaining Port building and associated infrastructure.

o Utilizes forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift.

  1. Skills & Abilities:

o Basic knowledge of arithmetic and calculates linear measurements in order to compute the dimensions of surface areas.

o Reads cages, measuring water and power usage. o Operate backhoes, skid steers, front and loaders.

o Work on elevated platforms and other elevated locations.

  1. Safety:

o Learn to identify, report and address potential safety hazards risks to maintain a hazard-free Port environment.

o Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring personal safety and the safety of others.

o Participate in safety training sessions and comply with all safety policies and procedures. Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have at least two years of general maintenance and construction experience. · Knowledge of hand tools, materials and equipment, and their safe use.
  • Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Have minimal ability to perform carpentry, electrical, concrete work, asphalt work, painting, and plumbing.
  • Basic record keeping. Able to perform safety checks, and hazmat files. · Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills that combine tact, patience and courtesy. · Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to Swim.

Special Requirements :

  • A current, valid California Class C driver’s license at time of appointment and maintained at all times thereafter in order to operate a vehicle on District business.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a background check in accordance with current Federal and State Maritime facilities requirements, i.e., must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card, (TWIC).
