The full story:

Background

Service Coordination, Inc. (SCI) is a leading provider of case management services in Maryland, dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to live full, independent lives. Supporting more than 16,000 individuals statewide, SCI connects people and families with the resources they need to thrive by championing choice, fostering inclusion, and building stronger communities. Through person-centered planning, compassionate advocacy, and meaningful partnerships, SCI helps individuals navigate complex systems for vital resources.

Challenges

SCI’s Talent Acquisition Team manages high-volume recruitment across multiple functions. The majority of their hiring focuses on case management roles – including Service Coordinators and Supports Planners – serving communities across Maryland. They also recruit for a variety of Program Support roles within their People & Culture, Marketing & Communications, Finance, Business Process & Risk, and other departments.

With the goal of broadening and diversifying their applicant pool, SCI wanted to connect with talent representing a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and education levels to build strong, inclusive teams capable of serving Maryland’s diverse communities.

SCI was also looking to enhance their sourcing strategy and complement their existing resources with a more tailored and focused recruitment solution. They wanted to reduce the time it took to identify qualified candidates and increase their postings’ visibility among job seekers in the human services industry.

Solutions

When SCI sought a smarter, more strategic way to connect with qualified candidates in the human services field, iHire – an industry-focused employment platform – stood out. With 57 industry-specific talent communities, including iHireSocialServices, and a resume database of more than 3 million unique, career-minded candidates, iHire was just the solution for SCI.

“iHire offered a more targeted approach that aligned with our recruitment goals,“ said Kathryn Eckert, JD, SHRM-CP, Talent Acquisition Director, SCI. “The ability to reach professionals with experience and passion for human services was a key differentiator. We were aware of iHire’s niche focus within industries like healthcare and human services. Their headquarters are in Frederick, Maryland, not far from ours, and that local connection, combined with their specialized approach, made them a strong fit for our needs.“

SCI subscribed to iHire’s automated Job Slots. Initially, iHire used an XML feed (or site wrap) generated from SCI’s website to promote up to 50 job postings at a time on relevant talent communities, including iHireSocialServices, iHireNursing, iHireTherapy, iHireMentalHealth, iHireAdmin, and others, with no manual effort. Later, iHire fully integrated Job Slots with SCI’s applicant tracking system (ATS), affording the organization even more efficiencies.

“The implementation process with iHire was smooth and collaborative,“ added Eckert. “Their technical team worked closely with us and our internal IT team to ensure seamless integration with our ATS. This has allowed candidates to apply directly into our system, simplifying the review, communication, and tracking process for our recruiters.“

Additionally, SCI is using iHire’s Resume Search to build regional talent pools, especially for their Service Coordinator and Supports Planner roles. Resume Search allows recruiters to proactively identify and reach out to candidates across the state as well as add potential hires to their talent pipeline. They can also add candidates sourced through iHire to their ATS in one click.

To showcase its employer brand and entice potential applicants, SCI set up a free company profile. SCI also joined iHire’s Choice Employer program, which rewards companies for pledging to treat job seekers well, for even more opportunities to get in front of qualified talent.

Results

Since partnering with iHire, SCI has promoted over 1,000 jobs, received more than 3,000 applications, and made seven hires for Case Manager roles. Plus, in just the first month after integrating iHire’s Job Slots with their ATS, SCI experienced a 171% month-over-month increase in applies. This suggests that the ATS integration is driving stronger candidate engagement and enabling job seekers to apply more easily by going directly through iHire’s platform.

“These numbers are on par with our expectations and reflect steady performance,“ Eckert said. “Beyond metrics, the quality of applicants has been strong, with several hires demonstrating a clear alignment with our mission and values.“

In addition, integration with SCI’s ATS saves time and increases efficiency, as jobs, candidates, prescreening questions, and other data are automatically synced between systems.

“Our Talent Acquisition team regularly uses the platform to source, engage, and review candidates,” Eckert continued. “iHire has also proven valuable to job seekers who are specifically looking for careers in human services, offering a streamlined path to connect with us.“

Moving forward, SCI plans to continue building upon their partnership with iHire. Specifically, they want to leverage iHire’s reporting and analytics tools to refine their strategies and further improve their results over time.

“iHire has helped us expand our reach and connect with candidates we may not have reached through other platforms,” Eckert concluded. “Their specialized focus has contributed to more efficient sourcing and has strengthened our ability to identify top-tier talent in a highly competitive field.“
