Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic

Salls Brothers Co is seeking a skilled and self-motivated Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy construction equipment in the field. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, works independently, and is committed to safety, reliability, and high-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, dozers, skid steers, dump trucks, and related machinery.
• Inspect equipment to identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues.
• Complete preventative maintenance services (oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, lubrication, etc.).
• Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems.
• Use diagnostic software and tools to identify faults and calibrate systems.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation of repairs.
• Communicate effectively with operators and supervisors regarding equipment condition and repair timelines.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
• Maintain and stock field service truck with necessary tools and parts.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience working on heavy construction equipment (field experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrain components.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
