Job Title: Cage Wash TechnicianJob Description
As a Cage Wash Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of our animal research facilities. You will be responsible for cleaning and sterilizing cages and cage accessories using mechanical washers and autoclaves, ensuring a steady supply of cages and accessories in line with the cage-change schedule and user demands. Additionally, you will perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and assist in various operational tasks to support the Animal Research Core.
Responsibilities
- Comprehend and follow standard operating procedures and guidelines to ensure personnel safety and biosecurity while working in the cage wash area.
- Wear stipulated personal protective equipment.
- Maintain all relevant training and certifications as required by the institution.
- Process cages and accessories using mechanical washers and autoclaves, ensuring proper sanitation and sterilization using temperature-sensitive indicators.
- Promptly report any equipment failures to supervisory staff and facility engineers.
- Operate and use rack washers and autoclaves to sanitize and sterilize animal cages, racks, and other related equipment.
- Deliver cages and cage accessories to and from animal holding areas.
- Maintain inventory in the clean/sterile side of the cage wash area, animal feed rooms, and other necessary areas as directed by the supervisor.
- Perform preventive maintenance on washers, autoclaves, racks, automatic watering systems, and other caging equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness in the cage wash area daily, including cleaning and sanitizing floors, walls, equipment, and other surfaces as required.
- Prepare and use disinfecting and sanitizing solutions.
- Remain familiar with vivarium emergency response procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- Associates or Bachelors in Animal Science is a plus
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Prior experience with cleaning or working with animals
- Ability to work on feet for long hours

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
