Position Overview

Camp Laurel South is seeking a Horse Riding Program Director to lead and oversee our equestrian program at our premier residential summer camp in Maine’s Sebago Lakes region.

This is a leadership role responsible for curriculum design, staff supervision, rider development, horse welfare, and overall program management. The Riding Director serves as a member of the camp’s leadership team and plays a key role in shaping a safe, structured, and inspiring riding experience for campers.

This is not an entry-level instructor position. We are seeking an experienced equestrian professional ready to take ownership of a program.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement structured lesson progression for riders of varying skill levels

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate riding staff

• Maintain high safety standards and enforce riding protocols

• Ensure proper horse care, welfare, and barn organization

• Oversee daily scheduling and program operations

• Communicate with camp leadership regarding program needs

• Foster a positive, confidence-building environment for campers

• Participate as a member of the camp’s program leadership team

Qualifications

• Strong riding background (hunter/jumper, dressage, eventing, or related disciplines)

• Experience teaching riding lessons to youth

• Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred

• Knowledge of horse care, stable management, and safety standards

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a structured camp environment

• Professional, organized, and safety-focused mindset
