450 Architects (450) is a 100% employee-owned design studio that works with forward-thinking clients to create modern, soulful architecture and public spaces. 450 is located in San Francisco and has developed a diverse portfolio of awardwinning public, private and non-profi t projects throughout California in the areas of educational, civic, public open space, residential and commercial. The studio is recognized for its commitment to sustainable/regenerative design, community engagement, advocacy, and entrepreneurial spirit. 450 is a California State certifi ed Small Business (Micro) and a SF Green Business Innovator.
450 has 32 years of experience providing comprehensive architectural services from conceptual design through final close-out for small to large-sized projects including modernizations, renovations and new construction for public and private clients. The studio has completed more than 250 projects requiring Division of the State Architect (DSA) review, approval and project close-out. 450’s successful projects demonstrates the rigor to which the firm applies strict attention to every project from contract documents to specifi cations. The focus is on creative and regenerative design solutions and construction methodology for cost effective and modern structures. For the Argonne Child Development Center, the first building integrated photo-voltaic (BIPV) demonstration school in California, 450 Architects won an AIA COTE Top Ten Green Building of the Year Award.
All of 450 Architects projects adhere to a rigorous ethos of advocacy and sustainability. In 2004, the studio was hired by the County of San Mateo to develop the San Mateo Countywide Guide to Sustainable Buildings. In 2006, Richard Parker received the SAFE-BIDCO Green Entrepreneur of the Year award and recognition from the California State Legislature for his green building advocacy. In 2007, Parker volunteered with the California Building Standards Commission to review the initial draft of the California Green Building Standards Code, now CALGreen, adopted by the California Building Standards Commission, California Department of Housing and Community Development.
