TITLE:  Accounting Director, Controller

COMPENSATION:  $135,000 - 165,000 Annual, plus bonus

LOCATION:  Mostly Remote - 1-2 office visits in Corte Madera per month

SUMMARY

A growing multi-unit food service organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Director / Controller to oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, fixed asset management, and audit coordination. This role will partner with senior leadership and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support budgeting and forecasting processes. The position offers a hybrid work structure with limited in-office requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee fixed asset accounting including asset registers, depreciation schedules, and impairment analysis.
• Coordinate with facilities and operations teams on capital expenditure activity including construction, remodels, and major maintenance projects.
• Prepare and coordinate financial reporting packages for ownership and senior leadership.
• Partner with and oversee work performed by a third-party accounting provider responsible for certain accounting functions.
• Assist in the development and implementation of internal audit processes and controls.
• Manage both internal and external audit activities and serve as the primary contact for external audit firms.
• Oversee financial administration of a company-owned gift card or stored value program.
• Respond to reporting requests and provide financial analysis and information to ownership and leadership teams.
• Support the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecasting.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Assist with special projects and additional financial initiatives as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA certification required.
• Experience in a public accounting firm preferred.
• Experience working with multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, or retail organizations preferred.
• Experience as an Assistant Controller, Controller, or similar accounting leadership role.
• Knowledge of financial reporting, fixed asset accounting, and internal controls.
• Experience managing external accounting providers or outsourced accounting functions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret financial data and present information to senior leadership.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with common Microsoft Office applications.
