Job Description
KPRC 2 is compiling a dream team to create, launch and execute a pioneering news accountability show; and the person who fills this role will be a key piece to the puzzle.
If you're a producer who's tired of staring at a rundown all day, daydreaming about getting out into the community and doing some impactful journalism, keep reading. This job description just keeps getting better.
Forget the VO's, VOSOT's and PKG's that currently dominate your day. We're doing things differently, and you'll play an important role in deciding what that revolution looks like.
You'll join an already-stacked team. Each member has decades of experience. You'll be working and running in lockstep with veteran reporters, producers, an Executive Producer, an Executive Reporter, and a Manager of Content and Coverage.
What You'll Do
- Help the team seek out and identify stories focused on investigative reporting, community issues, and public/government systems
- Work with the team to demand accountability and push for answers on behalf of Houstonians
- Collaborate with reporters and photographers to produce audience-focused content for this groundbreaking show and beyond what airs on television
- Create your own solution-oriented content that starts on digital and continues on the show as we work to get answers for Houstonians
- Incorporate a digital-first mindset as you pitch, write, and craft content that starts across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube, Reddit, and Nextdoor
- Follow the engagement on digital platforms and use it to elevate content in the 10pm show
- Track results and demands for accountability as we sustain an ongoing conversation with the Houstonians who are trusting us to expose what is broken
- Collaborate with the Executive Producer to bring the results of this unrelenting quest for answers to air every night at 10pm
Skills required
- A creative storytelling vision while maintaining journalistic integrity
- The ability to write in a tone that conveys clarity over confusion
- Multi-platform producing expertise (linear, digital, streaming)
- Strong organizational skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- A work ethic that fosters collaboration with reporters and producers
Requirements
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of television news experience
- Knowledge of investigative journalism standards and accountability reporting
- Experience producing or showcasing investigative or special projects content
- Experience with new program launches considered a plus
