POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director is responsible for managing the technical, visual, and editorial execution of live and recorded newscasts, as well as editing and preparing content for broadcast and digital platforms. This position requires expertise in automated production control, video editing systems, and collaborative content creation. Working closely with editorial, production, and technical teams, the Director ensures that all productions meet the highest standards of quality, creativity, and efficiency while maintaining a strong sense of journalistic integrity and storytelling.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the creation of live and recorded newscasts that are sharp, seamless, and visually dynamic.
- Command the control room-operating automation systems, switchers, and tech that turns storytelling into an experience.
- Edit and enhance video content with creativity and precision, producing engaging pieces for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
- Partner with reporters, photographers, producers, and digital teams to craft cohesive and visually stunning stories.
- Direct live events and special productions, helping shape innovative content beyond traditional newscasts.
- Manage video assets, organize workflows, and ensure that every frame is ready for air, archive, or online.
- Optimize and repurpose broadcast pieces for web and mobile, expanding reach and engagement.
- Handle playback, media ingest, and server systems with a problem-solver's mind and a producer's care.
- Communicate clearly, lead decisively, and inspire collaboration among all crew members.
- Jump in wherever needed-from shooting on location to editing breaking news-to keep the storytelling engine running
- Other related duties as assigned.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2 years' experience directing automated newscasts or producing live television content.
- A strong command of automation systems (Ross, Sony ELC, or similar) and fluency in editing platforms such as Edius or Adobe Premiere.
- A storyteller's intuition-skilled in pacing, sound, and visuals to make every scene resonate.
- The ability to thrive in high-pressure moments, make smart decisions fast, and lead calmly when the unexpected happens.
- Versatility across the studio: camera operation, lighting, teleprompting, or floor directing.
- A collaborative spirit and curiosity for innovation in both broadcast and digital storytelling.
- Flexibility to adapt to the unpredictable rhythms of news-mornings, nights, weekends, and beyond.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- A keen understanding of digital metrics, audience behavior, and multiplatform storytelling.
- Experience working across departments, turning great ideas into polished productions.
- Strong editorial judgment guided by journalistic ethics and industry standards.
