Tooling Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop aluminum tooling used in composite manufacturing processes, ensuring high precision, durability, and optimal performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve tooling efficiency, shorten cycle times, and enhance the quality of composite components.
• Utilize expertise in aluminum alloys and carbon fiber prepreg materials to determine suitable tooling materials, surface finishes, and treatments.
• Manage prototype tool fabrication, perform testing, and verify designs meet production and performance requirements.
• Establish maintenance plans and repair procedures to maximize tool lifespan and ensure consistent operational performance.
• Coordinate with design engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure tooling complies with specifications and industry standards.
• Create and maintain detailed drawings, technical specifications, and documentation to support manufacturing and quality control processes.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in tooling design, with specific focus on aluminum tools for composite manufacturing (compression molding and resin transfer molding preferred).

Technical Skills:

• Skilled in CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, and similar design platforms.
• Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, including lay-up, curing, and trimming operations.
• Familiar with CNC machining, EDM, and various precision fabrication methods used in tooling and component production.
• Solid understanding of material properties and performance characteristics of aluminum and composite materials.
