Role Overview
The Construction Staff Accountant supports the accounting and financial operations of Procopio Companies. This position is employed and managed by The Finance Squad but works full-time and exclusively on the accounting functions of Procopio.

The role focuses on construction accounting support including job cost tracking, reconciliations, financial reporting assistance, and maintaining accurate project-level financial data. The Staff Accountant works closely with the Construction Controller, project managers, and the accounts payable team to ensure financial information is accurate and timely.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Accounting Support
Maintain accurate job cost records across multiple construction projects
Assist in monitoring job cost activity including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead allocations
Review project transactions for proper coding and accuracy
Support the preparation of Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and construction reporting

Month-End Close
Assist with the monthly close process including journal entries and reconciliations
Prepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records
Support the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules

Project and Operational Support
Work closely with project managers to ensure costs are properly recorded and categorized
Help track project budgets, commitments, and cost variances
Provide financial support for project reporting and operational reviews

Accounts Payable and Transaction Oversight
Review AP coding to ensure correct job and phase allocation
Assist with subcontractor tracking including retainage and change orders
Support documentation and organization of project financial records

Process and Controls
Follow accounting procedures and internal controls established by The Finance Squad
Maintain organized documentation to support audits and financial reviews
Assist in improving processes that support scalable construction accounting operations

Qualifications

2–5 years of accounting experience
Construction accounting experience preferred
Familiarity with job costing and project-based accounting environments
Strong Excel and data organization skills
Ability to work collaboratively with operations and project management teams
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
