Superintendent – Heavy Civil / Infrastructure Construction
Location: Ohio (multiple regions)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $80-$100,000/annually + bonus + full benefits
Position Overview
We are recruiting for an experienced Superintendent to support a growing heavy civil construction contractor specializing in heavy highway, bridges, dams, water/wastewater infrastructure, and large-scale site preparation projects. This role is responsible for the day-to-day field leadership and execution of complex civil construction projects, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in DOT and municipal civil infrastructure projects, with hands-on experience leading crews, coordinating subcontractors, and driving productivity in the field.

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Project Execution

• Lead and supervise all on-site construction activities from mobilization through project closeout
• Direct self-perform crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure efficient and high-quality work
• Serve as the primary on-site representative for owners, inspectors, and project partners
• Coordinate closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers to align field operations with project plans

Schedule & Productivity Management

• Develop and maintain short-term and look-ahead schedules in coordination with project management
• Plan daily and weekly work activities to meet production and schedule goals
• Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material deliveries
• Identify field-level risks and proactively implement corrective actions

Safety & Quality

• Champion jobsite safety and enforce compliance with company, OSHA, and DOT safety standards
• Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses
• Work closely with safety leadership to maintain strong safety performance
• Ensure all work meets contract documents, plans, specifications, and quality standards

Coordination & Documentation

• Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality control activities
• Assist with RFIs, field changes, as-builts, and daily reporting
• Track quantities, field changes, and production for accurate cost and schedule reporting
• Support project closeout activities including punch lists and final documentation

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent in heavy civil construction
• Proven experience with one or more of the following:
  • Heavy highway and roadway construction
  • Bridges and structures
  • Dams, waterways, or flood control projects
  • Water / wastewater or underground utilities
  • Large-scale site development and earthwork
• Strong understanding of DOT and municipal construction projects
• Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and schedules
• Experience leading self-perform crews and managing subcontractors
• Proficient with construction technology, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on ODOT or other state DOT projects
• Background in both union and non-union environments (as applicable)
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple work fronts and crews simultaneously
