As the Electrical Control Engineer will work onsite at PPG's Delaware, Ohio manufacturing facility, reporting directly to the Process Controls Manager. You will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification of process control and safety systems supporting chemical and specialty materials production. You will partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve, operational reliability, yield enhancement, and efficiency improvements. You will also have ownership of instrumentation and automation projects, including capital projects, from design through installation and startup.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and ongoing support to the site's 24/7 manufacturing operations related to process control systems, safety systems, process instrumentation, DCS, and PLCs.
Troubleshoot and resolve control system, instrumentation, and automation issues using technical knowledge and data analysis skills.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities related to control systems, electrical systems, and automation.
Support production and maintenance teams in yield improvement, efficiency optimization, and reliability projects.
Lead the installation, commissioning, and startup of instrumentation and automation projects, including capital projects, ensuring compliance with functional, budgetary, and schedule requirements.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, site procedures, and regulatory requirements related to electrical and control systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related field preferred).
3+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing or chemical process environment.
Hands-on experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) development, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
Experience working with process instrumentation in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control drawings.
