Job Description


Responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures at Metro facilities. Troubleshoot electrical issues involving medium to high voltage switches and panels. Assists in the troubleshooting of technical and/or potentially hazardous processes and equipment. Works under the direction of a supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

  1. Uses hand tools and testing instruments to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components and isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment.
  2. Maintain accurate documentation of repairs made, materials used, and time spent using CMMS work order system.
  3. Repairs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical systems, including electrical distribution, security systems, electrical preventative maintenance, fire alarms, and automated controls systems.
  4. Repair, and maintain electrical components and systems, HVAC support, inspect buildings and equipment, and perform work in accordance with layout National Electrical Code (NEC).  Installs distribution equipment, lighting fixtures, Lighting systems and circuitry according to NEC and METRO established safety procedures. Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of NEC, local building, and established safety codes.
  5. Estimates time and material costs on electrical projects. Requisitions of new electrical supplies and equipment.
  6. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:

  • Standard practices, principles, methods, materials and tools used in the electrical, solid-state electronic and pneumatic instrument trades
  • National Electrical Code and the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to the electrical trade
  • Medium to high voltage switch gear
  • Computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS Programs
  • Control systems: Devices or a set of devices that command and manage the performance and behavior of other equipment and systems.
  • National Fire Protection Association electrical standards (70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace & 101. Emergency Lighting)

Skilled at:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing facility electrical issues
  • Using hand tools, electrical meter, and testing equipment
  • Install and maintain building automation: HVAC, Lighting, Paging systems, Access control, (fire alarm)
  • Researching electrical issues to troubleshoot alarms and logic
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment by following established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Reading and understanding mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings and plans

Ability to:

  • Read and interpret blue-prints or electrical schematics and knowledge of the National Electric Code. 
  • Organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Work independently and as part of a work group or team
  • Act as a subject matter expert regarding electrical issues


Education
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Completion of electrical trade school, State registered apprenticeship program or are currently a Journeyman, or Master Electrician License. Valid driver’s license.
