Position SummaryThe HVAC Service Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains commercial and light industrial heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems. This role delivers safe, high-quality service, clear communication with customers and dispatch, and accurate documentation in our work order system.
What Youll DoDiagnose, repair, and maintain: RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, gas/electric furnaces, make-up air units, VAV/FPB, exhaust/fans, pumps, controls, and related refrigeration/electrical components.
Perform PMs, start-ups, and commissioning checks; verify operation against manufacturer specifications.
Execute basic electrical tasks related to HVAC service (contactors/relays, motors, capacitors, VFD basics, 120480V, 1/3) in compliance with code.
Recover, evacuate, and charge systems per EPA Section 608 requirements; pressure/leak test and document readings.
Read/interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and O&M manuals to plan work.
Use mobile work order software (e.g., BuildOps) to document diagnoses, parts, labor, photos, and customer notes in real time.
Communicate status, parts needs, and next steps to Dispatch/Service Manager and the customer contact.
Follow company safety procedures ( L ockout/Tagout, PPE, fall protection, hot work); maintain a clean, organized work area and vehicle.
Mentor apprentices/helpers as needed.
3+ years of HVAC service experience (commercial preferred).
EPA Section 608 certification (Type II or Universal).
Proficiency with refrigeration diagnostics, brazing/soldering, vacuum/charging, superheat/subcooling, airflow and combustion basics.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults using meters/gauges and manufacturer service literature.
Valid drivers license and insurable MVR.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, on rooftops, and in confined spaces; tolerate seasonal temps.
Clear, professional communication; reliable documentation habits.
Commercial service background (schools, healthcare, offices, retail, light industrial).
OSHA-10 (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
NATE certification; experience with DDC/BAS
Boiler, chiller, hydronics, and VFD experience.
