The Front End Lead Developer will work closely with the Front End leadership team to understand strategy before coordinating tactical execution on their product team. The lead will have a robust personal knowledge of full website architecture and help bridge communication gaps between all cross-functional partners. Additionally, they will enforce quality standards across product teams and help reinforce best practices; a leads well-rounded view allows them to guide and supervise the work of their fellow developers.
UI Development: Provides guidance to the team on standards for HTML and SASS. Acts as a point of escalation for complex integrations. Keeps up to date with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript advancements to provide guidance to the team. Understands the value of reusable code, promoting and ensuring adoption of the design system. Considers the potential for reusability when reviewing code and provides guidance and feedback to front-end team members to promote reusability. Works with back-end leads and leadership to help define API standards for developers. Comfortable using with the advanced features of React (useEffect, refs, useMemo).
Site Performance: Acts as a recognized expert and advocate for web performance optimization and standard processes. Coaches members of the team and creates learning opportunities. Advocates to cross-functional partners on opportunities for improvements and performance considerations needed for new features.
Accessibility: Solid understanding of accessibility development practices. Advocates for continued accessible development standards to both development team members and cross-functional partners. Keeps up-to-date with industry tools and resources promoting accessible development.
Dev Tooling: Acts as SME for our NPM packages. Has extensive experience implementing and maintaining task runners, bundlers, and/or various NPM packages. Familiar with performance and security risks associated with NPM packages, and can take steps to evaluate new potential packages. Takes an active role in finding opportunities for improvements to our client-side build processes and development workflow. Supports the team in using our current tools and helps find opportunities for new tooling. Comfortable using React Dev Tools and a few vendor-debug tools.
Javascript Frameworks / Libraries: Acts as SME for our frameworks and libraries. Professional experience working with multiple frameworks and libraries. They are comfortable evaluating the benefits and risks of new libraries from technical, process, maintainability, security, and future state perspectives. Helps to establish testing standards and strategy. Provides team oversight and guidance to ensure frameworks and libraries are used as intended and follow best-practices. Comfortable with data-fetching libraries like react-query and component libraries like Chakra.
Refinement / Planning: Identifies technical design and approaches for complex integrations through the Architecture Runway. Helps break down cross-team initiatives by providing unified design guidance. Actively seeks opportunities to address large-scale technical debt and maps opportunities to achieve front-end goals through upcoming planned work. Provides guidance to team members through reviewing development approaches and suggesting other options.
UI/UX: Has a solid understanding of UI/UX design and its overlap with front-end development. Works with UX leads and leadership to analyze upcoming initiatives to proactively identify technical limitations that inform UX/UI design.
Code Design: Leads have experience working with different design patterns and understand the benefits of different approaches. They are able to guide the team to structure new development following best-practices. When reviewing code, they are able to quickly identify improvement opportunities to both functionality and readability. Leads take an active role in advocating for code quality, through mentorship and explaining rationale to cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities
Deliver high quality accessible code using industry standard processes.
Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to help refine and develop requirements and user stories for site enhancements.
Work closely with User Experience, Back-End Development, and Quality Assurance partners to define practical solutions that meet business requirements, advocating for robust high-quality solutions.
Review pull-requests and provide meaningful feedback and ideas to team members.
Coach less-senior members of the team to provide guidance on improving their craft.
Provide thought work for improvements and implementation approaches to improve the team's code quality.
Create integration documentation to provide clear resources for developers to integrate new features.

Qualifications

8+ years hands-on front end web development.
Experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud/Demandware/SFRA or other Ecommerce platforms preferred.
Experience with Git and version control and API driven design.
Expert-level knowledge of modern front-end technologies and of React
Strong knowledge of server-side JavaScript technologies and expert-level understanding of client-side JavaScript technologies
Experience in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, leading and adhering to style guidelines and working with design systems, as well as build automation and continuous integration
Have a solid understanding of accessibility practices (ADA/WCAG compliance).
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment as a valued team member with high-level business requirements and help partners define technical scope.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively collaborate with business users through explaining technical concepts in simplified terms, as well as the ability to support, mentor and provide technical guidance for other developers
Desire to learn new technologies and continually expand technical capabilities.
Experience contributing to projects in a heavily cross-functional environment and with collaborative and productivity tools such as Jira/Trello/Confluence

Education
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
