Position Overview
The Ground Improvement / SOE Piledriver is responsible for setting templates and pile layouts for retaining walls, bulkheads, and foundations of structures, such as buildings, bridges, and piers. This role is physically demanding and requires working safely around heavy equipment while supporting skilled operators and foremen on geotechnical and foundation projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Support & Labor
- Use the pile driver head on the machine to drive pilings.
- Host piling into leads.
- Judge distance and position piling leads.
- Site preparation, such as cutting, joining, and fastening construction materials, as well as setting up and disassembling pile driving equipment.
- Confer with the project supervisor on job specifications.
- Comply with safety codes.
- Ability to read layout plans to position and drive piles accurately,
- Set pile installation lines for template
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety regulations at all times.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and consistently.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues to supervisors immediately.
Coordination & Communication
- Work under the direction of the Foreman and Operators to support daily tasks.
- Communicate clearly with team members to maintain safe and efficient workflows.
- Assist with loading/unloading materials and staging equipment.
Qualifications
- Prior pile driving experience preferred; foundation, geotechnical, or SOE experience a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions.
- Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and basic construction practices.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform strenuous physical tasks.
- Reliable transportation & valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to travel up and down the East coast
Working Conditions
- Outdoor construction site environment with exposure to all weather conditions.
- Work near heavy equipment, drilling rigs, and excavation operations.
- Extended hours, nights, and weekends may be required depending on the project schedule.
- Requires physical stamina, strength, and attention to safety.
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation)
- Must be able to lift and carry materials such as steel beams, drill steel, steel rods, equipment parts, and pieces weighing up to fifty pounds frequently; prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and keyboard use/repetitive hand motions. Occasionally, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching/working overhead, and climbing into equipment are required daily. A full range of arm, hand, and leg motions is required to operate construction equipment. The ability to move through the job site. Work is performed outside, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, cold, or hot. Near-vision acuity is required to inspect repairs and maintenance, read blueprints, manuals, and other similar documents. and adequate far-vision for spotting approaching equipment.
