Position Summary
The Shipping and Receiving Manager oversees and manages all shipping and receiving operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of orders, inventory control, and warehouse organization. This is a high pressure position that requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving skills to manage logistics, maintain quality standards, and meet customer satisfaction goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Shipping Operations:
Oversee, coordinate, and monitor all outgoing shipments to ensure timely delivery.
Negotiate shipping and freight rates with carriers and implement cost-reduction initiatives in shipping processes.
Coordinate with other departments to optimize logistics plans and ensure efficient workflows
Manage the receipt, handling, and dispatch of goods, ensuring that all shipments are processed promptly and stored correctly.
Review shipping schedules and prioritize orders to meet deadlines.
Prepare shipping documentation, such as bills of lading, invoices, and customs paperwork (if applicable).
Ensure products are properly packed and labeled according to company and client specifications.
Receiving Operations:
Oversee the receipt of incoming shipments, verifying delivery accuracy against purchase orders.
Inspect goods for damage or discrepancies and communicate issues with suppliers or vendors.
Manage and maintain records of incoming inventory.
Inventory Management:
Track and control inventory levels to ensure stock accuracy.
Conduct regular cycle counts and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
Implement and enforce inventory control processes and policies.
Team Leadership:
Manage and provide direction to the shipping and receiving team.
Train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance to ensure productivity and efficiency.
Create and maintain schedules to optimize workforce utilization.
Logistics and Vendor Coordination:
Coordinate with freight carriers, suppliers, and internal departments to resolve issues or delays.
Negotiate shipping rates and contracts with transportation vendors.
Ensure compliance with all shipping and customs regulations.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Ensure the warehouse and dock areas are organized, clean, and safe.
Implement and enforce health and safety protocols.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP).
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure manufacturing or distribution environment.
Required Skills & Abilities
Proven experience as a Shipping and Receiving Manager or a similar logistics role.
Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, including domestic and international logistics.
Familiarity with inventory management systems (e.g., WMS, ERP software – Epicor a plus)
Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to work in fast paced, high pressure situations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) a must.
Physical ability to lift and move heavy items when necessary.
Ability to use forklift if necessary.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility.
Must be able to quickly traverse manufacturing areas.
Must be able to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lay, and squat in order to maintain equipment.
