What You'll Need:

  • One of the following certifications is required: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI, Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by CCI, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI, Radiography (R) by ARRT, Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) by ARRT, Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV) by ARRT, Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) by ARRT, Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS, Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS, Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS, or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS.
  • BLS certification required (AHA only).
  • ACLS certification required (AHA only).
  • Associate's degree in cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or a healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Diagnostic, Interventional Radiology, or Cath/EP Lab required.
  • PALS certification required if working independently in pediatric facilities (preferred unless not applicable).
  • State-specific licensing when required.
  • Must be able to train on and operate cath lab equipment including IVUS, ICE, contrast injectors, hemodynamic systems, intra-aortic balloon pumps, rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, and LVAD/Impella support (preferred).
  • Ability to serve as preceptor and resource for junior technicians and technologists (preferred).

Role Summary

The Catheterization Laboratory Technician II is an experienced member of the cath lab team who prepares the lab, equipment, and supplies for diagnostic and interventional procedures. The role requires accurate patient documentation, strict sterile technique, and collaboration with physicians and the procedure team. The technician supports advanced procedures, maintains safety and radiation awareness, completes hemodynamic and ECG recording tasks, and serves as a preceptor for junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily room checks, equipment operational verification, and required documentation for quality control.
  • Prepare equipment, supplies, and room configuration for scheduled procedures.
  • Enter and verify patient information in cath lab computer and imaging systems.
  • Record hemodynamic measurements, recognize ECG findings, and assist with access site management.
  • Support and scrub for physicians during procedures, maintain aseptic technique, and stop line for any sterile breaks.
  • Serve as radiation safety representative during Xray use and adhere to radiation safety practices.
  • Participate in patient transport, departmental process improvement, and unit-based councils.
