We are seeking a Manager-level Dev Lead / Application Development Manager to provide an immediate backfill on a critical account. This role requires a hands-on technical leader who can step into an active environment quickly, drive backend development, and manage delivery across internal and subcontracted engineering teams.
The ideal candidate has deep experience building and leading event-driven, serverless backend systems on AWS , strong communication skills, and familiarity with clients internal development processes.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership- Lead development efforts for large-scale, event-driven distributed systems using serverless AWS architectures
- Design, implement, and oversee backend solutions using Java and/or Golang
- Rapidly assess existing architectures, identify integration points, and drive new feature development
- Debug and trace complex event-driven workflows across serverless services
- Translate high-level technical direction or problem statements into clear implementation plans
- Drive work forward in situations with ambiguity; quickly disambiguate requirements
- Clearly communicate progress, risks, and blockers to stakeholders
- Ensure timely, high-quality delivery while maintaining system stability and scalability
- Interview candidates for staffing needs
- Own and execute the knowledgetransfer process for newly onboarded developers
- Manage performance of client developers and subcontractors
- Provide scope of work and key deliverable details to the program manager
- Produce and maintain:
- Weekly status reports
- Monthly status reports
- Proven experience as a Dev Lead or Development Manager in backend engineering
- Strong handson background in event-driven, serverless cloud architectures
- Deep understanding of the complexities of serverless systems and how to debug them
- Ability to decompose outcomes into actionable technical tasks
- Experience working in large, complex architectures with multiple integrations
- Clear, proactive communicator willing to raise questions or concerns to unblock delivery
- Availability to work USEastern time
- Prior experience working within Amazons internal development environments or processes
- Demonstrated experience with AWS services including:
- Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS
- KMS, Secrets Manager, S3
- Experience using AWS CDK (TypeScript preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Java (Spring) or Golang (Gorilla Mux or similar)
- Testdriven development (TDD)
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
