The Big Walnut Local School District is seeking a Behavior Specialist to begin with the start of the 2026/2027 school year. This position is located within the Big Walnut Schools, and will be hired through the ESC of Central Ohio. We seek an individual who is organized, efficient, and self-motivated. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, and will contribute to the development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment by understanding the emotional and social development of children.

The Behavior Specialist will implement behavioral intervention strategies within our building programs; assist in the collection of classroom and building data; and monitor, document, and compile progress data. Conduct and support Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs); collaborate/create Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), strategies, and tools to support positive behavioral change/maintenance. Develop safety plans and re-entry plans for students as needed. Conduct and participate in ongoing training and staff development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in psychology, special education, social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification (BCBA) preferred
  • Valid State of Ohio teaching license
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with students with behavioral challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, school personnel, parents/guardians, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to provide coaching and training to teachers and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as Superintendent or Board of Education may find appropriate or as otherwise permissible by law

Salary:

  • 194-Day contract
  • Salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with ESCCO salary schedule
