Public Address (PA) Announcer

Summary The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking a knowledgeable, high-energy Public Address (PA) Announcer to serve as the official game-day voice of the Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena starting with the 2026-27 hockey season. The PA Announcer plays a pivotal role in creating an engaging and memorable game-day experience by informing, engaging, and entertaining fans throughout all home games. The ideal candidate should have an engaging arena presence, a strong, confident voice, and be comfortable following a run-of-show script while adapting on the fly. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Serve as the official in-game voice for starting lineups, player introductions, pre-game ceremonies, all in-game action, and commercial break activations. Announce game-related information in real-time, including goals, penalties, powerplays, goalie changes, scoring changes, and other required game information. Deliver all announcements, including corporate partner reads, sponsor messages, promotional announcements, public safety announcements, special recognitions, and presentations. Follow a run-of-show script, executing both scripted and non-scripted elements, with the ability to react quickly to direction, script changes, last-minute changes, or unexpected game situations. Engage with fans in the arena, bringing an enthusiastic demeanor and strong vocal presence to create a lively, positive, and elevated fan experience. Work closely and collaboratively with Event Presentation, Production, and NHL Off-Ice Officials staff to ensure timing, delivery, and execution align with game scripts and NHL regulations. Maintain a family-friendly, neutral, and professional PA style appropriate for Columbus Blue Jackets and NHL standards. Provide availability for non-home game events, as needed. Comfortable pronouncing names across multiple cultures and languages. Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. Adaptability & Focus - Must remain calm, focused, and accurate in high-pressure, fast-moving in-game situations. Ability to follow scripts while also improvising professionally when needed. Professionalism- Must be reliable, detail oriented, well organized, and self-motivated. Maintains accuracy, clarity, and professionalism with all announcements. Teamwork- Ability to take direction well and work collaboratively. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment while adhering to directions and guidelines. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Motivated to learn new skills/tasks. Availability for all home Columbus Blue Jackets games. Strong knowledge of hockey rules, terminology, and timing is required. Comfortable and confident speaking in front of large crowds and on camera, and announcing to crowds up to 20,000+ people. Must be punctual, dependable, and comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays during the hockey season. Must provide a link to your PA highlight reel (required). Education and/or Experience Prior PA announcer experience is required. Prior experience in PA announcing, broadcasting, voice work, acting, or public speaking is required. Work Environment The schedule is flexible to include weekends, evenings, and holidays from September through May. Availability is required for non-home game events offered throughout the year, as needed.
