SOLUTIONS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY

At Han-Tek, we solve complex material handling challenges through unique, custom-engineered automation. The Solutions Development Engineer is the technical architect of our sales process, translating customer needs into viable system designs. From greenfield concepts to complex brownfield retrofits, you will lead application assessments, develop integrated layouts, and provide the technical framework for proposals. As a member of our agile team, you will see your designs move from a concept on your screen to a fully operational system on the customer's floor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • System Concepting & Design

  • RFQ Analysis: Review and interpret customer RFQs to identify core technical requirements, performance specifications, and potential design risks.

  • Requirement Validation: Document and "play back" business goals to clients to ensure total scope alignment before moving into detailed design.

  • Workflow & Layout: Use AutoCAD to design layouts for new spaces and "brownfield" environments, integrating new tech within legacy constraints.

  • Technology Selection: Evaluate and select the optimal mix of AS/RS, AMRs, robotics, and conveyors to meet throughput and space requirements.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze material flow and order data to identify automation opportunities and validate peak-demand performance.

  • Sales Support & Client Engagement

  • Technical Discovery: Lead site surveys and discovery calls to gather field measurements and identify unique application constraints.

  • Vendor Collaboration: Partner with technology vendors and OEMs to obtain specialized equipment pricing, lead times, and technical specifications.

  • Proposal & Costing: Lead proposal development and preliminary budgeting, ensuring custom components and engineering labor are accurately captured.

  • Business Case Support: Present solutions to clients as the Subject Matter Expert, utilizing ROI models to demonstrate long-term value.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Engineering Integration: Partner with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to ensure cohesive designs that align with Han-Tek's capabilities.

  • Project Handoff: Define clear performance requirements and system acceptance criteria to ensure a seamless transition to the execution team.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • 5+ years in industrial automation or solutions development with proven expertise in conveyors, robotics, and AS/RS.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with SolidWorks, Excel/SQL data analysis, and WMS/WCS interfaces preferred.
  • Ability to engineer creative solutions within the physical and operational constraints of existing facilities.
  • Strong ability to "bridge the gap" between sales goals and engineering execution through clear technical writing and verbal skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple high-priority design assignments in various phases of completion.
