Job Description

Security & Compliance Architect

Frederick, Maryland (On-Site)
Advantage.Tech

Build Secure Environments. Solve Real Problems. Help Clients Build Mature Security Programs.

Advantage.Tech is seeking a Security & Compliance Architect to design and guide cybersecurity architecture for organizations that rely on us to protect critical systems and data.

This role focuses on security architecture, compliance advisory support, and cybersecurity program development, ensuring environments are properly designed and documented before they are implemented and operated by our MSSP team.

You will work closely with senior engineering leadership and our VP of Security & Growth to design secure environments, support regulated clients, and guide the deployment of cybersecurity technologies across multiple industries.

This role is architecture-first, but it also includes the policy, compliance, and documentation work required to build mature cybersecurity programs.

About Advantage.Tech

Advantage Technology (Advantage.Tech) is an established IT and cybersecurity firm serving organizations across the Mid-Atlantic and nationwide, with a growing presence in Frederick, Maryland and the DMV region.

Founded in 2002, our company has built a reputation for deep engineering expertise, security-focused infrastructure design, and long-term client partnerships.

Our teams support commercial, healthcare, education, and government organizations with services including:

• Managed IT services
• Cybersecurity architecture and operations
• Compliance and regulatory support
• Infrastructure and cloud engineering
• Emerging AI-enabled technology solutions

Our culture is built around four principles:

Reliability. Efficiency. Security. Trust.

We believe strong engineering teams thrive where technical expertise is respected and real problems are being solved.

Key Responsibilities

Security Architecture & Engineering

• Design cybersecurity architecture for new and existing client environments
• Engineer security solutions aligned with Advantage.Tech’s approved security stack
• Provide architectural guidance to MSSP deployment teams
• Define monitoring scope, telemetry ingestion, and security visibility coverage
• Ensure security platforms are properly designed prior to implementation
• Validate that solutions support operational monitoring and response workflows

This role frequently involves determining how secure environments should be designed before they are implemented.

Security Presales & Technical Discovery

• Participate in technical discovery discussions with prospective clients
• Translate business and regulatory requirements into secure architecture designs
• Assist in scoping cybersecurity platforms and managed security services
• Support solution design for MDR and related security services
• Provide technical input during proposal development and solution planning

Compliance Advisory Support

Many Advantage.Tech clients operate in regulated industries. This role may support architecture and documentation related to frameworks such as:

• CMMC
• NIST 800-171
• PCI DSS
• HIPAA security expectations

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with System Security Plan (SSP) development
• Supporting CMMC Level 1 preparation
• Helping calculate and document SPRS scores
• Assisting with compliance documentation and remediation planning
• Supporting Advantage.Tech’s SOC 2 Type 2 program

Security Policy & Compliance Documentation

A portion of this role involves supporting the documentation and policy work required to maintain mature cybersecurity programs for both Advantage.Tech and our clients.

Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with SOC 2 policy development and maintenance
• Supporting cyber insurance security questionnaires and renewals
• Completing vendor security and risk assessment questionnaires
• Drafting and maintaining security policies and procedures
• Assisting clients in documenting security practices required for audits and regulatory frameworks

This work ensures that the security architecture we design is properly documented and defensible for auditors, regulators, and insurance providers.

Strong candidates understand that effective cybersecurity programs require both strong architecture and strong documentation.

Security Architecture Support During Incidents

When security incidents occur, you may provide technical architecture context to assist internal teams with investigation and analysis.

Leadership of breach response, ransomware events, legal notification, and executive-level communications remains the responsibility of Advantage.Tech’s Security Officer / VP of Security.

Security Platforms

Our cybersecurity stack includes technologies such as:

• Arctic Wolf MDR
• SentinelOne
• Barracuda security solutions
• DNSFilter
• Microsoft security technologies

You will help guide how these platforms are designed, integrated, and deployed within secure environments.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years experience in cybersecurity engineering, architecture, or consulting
• Experience designing secure infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks or regulatory standards
• Ability to clearly explain security architecture decisions to both technical and business stakeholders
• Experience assisting with compliance documentation, security questionnaires, or policy development
• Strong written communication skills for security documentation

Candidates who have designed and implemented security architecture in real production environments will be most successful in this role.

Applicants should be comfortable explaining why a security architecture decision was made, not just what technologies were deployed.

Preferred

• CISSP or equivalent advanced security certification
• Experience working with MDR platforms
• Experience working in MSP or MSSP environments
• Familiarity with CMMC, NIST 800-171, PCI DSS, or SOC 2 compliance programs

Work Location

This position is based in our Frederick, Maryland office and requires working on-site with our engineering and security teams.

We believe strong technical collaboration and architecture design benefits from engineers working closely together.
