Position SummaryThe Occupational Therapist (AHH) evaluates the patient’s level of function and develops individualized treatment plans to improve or maintain functional abilities and prevent disability. Services are provided through therapeutic interventions, including training, exercise, adaptive devices, and environmental modifications. This role includes initial and ongoing assessments and thorough documentation of patient progress and response to treatment.
Essential Functions- Evaluate patient needs and recommend individualized treatment plans.
- Implement therapeutic programs and reassess as necessary to determine effectiveness.
- Plan and conduct individual and group activities to promote recovery and functional independence.
- Instruct patients and caregivers in the use of assistive devices, home exercises, and safety protocols.
- Assess home environments and recommend modifications for improved safety and function.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams and participate in case conferences.
- Document all evaluations, interventions, progress, and patient education in compliance with standards.
- Supervise and mentor occupational therapy assistants in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain and request appropriate equipment and supplies.
- Follow safety and infection control policies and participate in emergency drills.
- Attend required training sessions and maintain competencies.
- Ability to design and implement purposeful activity programs tailored to individual needs.
- Proficiency in treatment areas including activities of daily living, adaptive equipment, orthotics, sensory-motor integration, and environmental modifications.
- Strong knowledge of geriatric care and dementia-related conditions.
- Excellent judgment, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with safety hazards in home environments and mitigation strategies.
- Minimum of 1 year as an Occupational Therapist preferred.
- Experience working with elderly populations or individuals with dementia preferred.
- New graduates and recently licensed therapists are encouraged to apply.
- Current Florida Occupational Therapy license.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and active auto insurance.
- Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred.
- For Medicare reimbursement, must meet requirements outlined in Addendum A. (request copy)
- Graduate of an occupational therapist program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
- Current TB test and immunization records or documented declinations (Hepatitis B and Flu).
- Ability to work in diverse settings including homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals.
- Requires physical ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. and assist patients up to 300 lbs.
- Must tolerate exposure to varying environments, stress, and potential communicable diseases.
