Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.

Must have at least 12 months of Medical Surgical / Telemetry Unit experience.

18 months of travel experience is required from any number of months.

Experience with Cerner is preferred from any number of months.

18 months of acute care experience.

BSN completion preferred

Candidates must have a District of Columbia license (required for submission).

This role will require floating to multiple units

Required Skills/Experience: Pyxis (Medication), Med/Surg, Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care/Management, Starting and maintaining IVs, Heparin, Insulin, PCA, Ortho trauma, Total joint replacement, Nasal Cannula, Oxygen administration, Oxygen tanks, Isolation Precautions/PPE.Preferred Skills/Experience: Peripheral nerve block catheters.Required Credentials: References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years. Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam for clearance (80% overall, 100% lethal rhythms) for MS/Tele. For DC locations You must have DC license in hand, but certain units accept pending (See JD). MedStar will usually accept a later booking date if you have applied for DC licensure. For MD Locations You must have compact license or MD license.Special Requests: Minimum 4 years nursing experience if first time traveler.Shift & Scheduling: Call Req: yes, In turn with unit staff. Weekend Requirement: Every Other weekend; 50% weekends required.Floating Requirements: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.Job Highlights: Unit Accepts 1st time Traveler. Patient Diagnoses: Orthopedics: Primary total joint (hip and knee) replacement, revision of total joint replacement, spine surgery, ankle replacement, total shoulder replacement. Other: The patient population is mostly surgical patient overflow, but many have other comorbidities and may be followed by the medicine team or other specialty teams during their stay. Unit Details: 6main is a busy surgical Orthopedic unit with patient length of stay ranging from 1-5 days. Multidisciplinary rounds are held daily Monday - Friday with the clinical nurses, charge Nurse, NP or PA and the case manager to ensure excellent coordination of care. The nursing staff work well together as a team to provide exceptional care to all patients. Facility Information: Type of Facility: Short Term Acute Care; Teaching Hospital. Total Staffed Beds: 402. Scrubs: Any color without hospital logos; not provided by unit. Unit Resources: IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, Unit Secretary. Average Daily Census: 26-30. Interview Process: Manager interviews are not guaranteed. Travelers must be comfortable proceeding without an interview. Any traveler questions should be directed to the AM.
