Job Description


Under the direction of the manager of finance, this position provides professional financial support for the Office of Inspector General (OIG). This position performs entry level financial support preparing and reviewing financial information, managing account records, processing transactions, and analyzing financial data.

DUTIES:

  • Processes requisitions, payment vouchers, and other transactions ensuring prompt payment of all OIG invoices
  • Processes registration requests for department employees attending training opportunities
  • Documents financial payments and maintains records
  • Tracks invoice statuses to ensure accurate record keeping
  • Collaborates with external vendors to reconcile accounting discrepancies
  • May assist in financial planning activities
  • Provides ad hoc financial reports as required
  • Performs other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of work experience in accounting or finance
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an associate’s degree in accounting or a directly related field, plus at least three years of accounting or finance experience
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a directly related field, plus one year of accounting or finance experience
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree or higher in accounting or a directly related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

General knowledge of:

  • Generally accepted accounting principles, methods, practices, and procedures
  • Generally accepted fiscal policy principles, methods, practices, and procedures
  • Applicable computer software packages (e.g., accounting software, data management software) and applications (e.g., Oracle)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong work ethic and professionalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborates with co-workers and thrives in a team-based environment
  • Ability to effectively work cross functionally in a fast-paced work environment

ANNUAL SALARY: Range: $57,852 – $94,332 (annual increases)

Starting: $57,852 (non-negotiable); Post successful six-month review $60,660

TRAVEL AND SCHEDULE: Travel outside Chicago is not required. The working hours for this position are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This role requires full-time, in-person work. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Employees must be a resident of the City of Chicago and proof of residency is required at the commencement of employment.
