Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Middle Level Summer School Teacher is responsible for delivering targeted Grade 6 instruction designed to bridge the transition from elementary to middle school. This role focuses on core content mastery and executive functioning skills, utilizing OTES 2.0 standards to drive student growth during the summer term.

Start Date: June 2, 2026

Planning session will take place on June 1st

Instructional Days Monday-Thursday

Hours 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

Salary: $29.69 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education or related field.
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Teaching License (e.g., Middle Childhood 4-9 or Elementary 1-8).
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Classroom, Docs, and Meet/Zoom.
  • Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific endorsement in English Language Arts or Mathematics.
  • Experience with adolescent restorative practices or PBIS.
  • Previous experience teaching 6th-grade transition or intervention programs.

OTES 2.0 Instructional Planning

  • Develops lesson plans that align with Grade 6 Ohio Learning Standards and connect to students’ prior 5th-grade knowledge.
  • Plans for a diverse range of learners by using data to differentiate content, process, and products.
  • Incorporates "Knowledge of Students" to support the social-emotional needs of emerging middle schoolers.

Instructional Delivery and Engagement

  • Employs high-engagement strategies suitable for middle-level learners to prevent summer slide.
  • Facilitates learning through both direct instruction and digital platforms (Google Suite/Zoom) as required.
  • Organizes teaching strategies to maximize the 5-hour instructional block (7:30 am - 12:30 pm).

Assessment and Data Analysis

  • Monitors student progress daily toward mastery of Grade 6 specific instructional objectives.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of student work, attendance, and growth measures.
  • Provides timely, constructive feedback to students to encourage ownership of learning.

Classroom Culture and Management

  • Establishes a classroom climate that mirrors the expectations of a middle school environment.
  • Follows district discipline procedures and implements rules that enhance a safe, respectful learning space.
  • Encourages student attendance and acknowledges individual accomplishments and appropriate behavior.

Professionalism and Communication

  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and feedback on work.
  • Participates in the required planning session on June 1 and adheres to all district professional standards.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student records and family information per FERPA guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • OTES 2.0 Framework and Grade 6 Ohio Learning Standards.
  • Characteristics of adolescent development and middle-level pedagogy.
  • Virtual instruction models and instructional technology tools.

Skilled in:

  • Differentiating instruction for various achievement levels.
  • Managing classroom transitions and student behavior effectively.
  • Verbal and written communication with a diverse school community.

Ability to:

  • Implement summer curricula with a focus on core mastery and intervention.
  • Multi-task in a fast-paced, seasonal educational setting.
  • Adapt to changing student needs and instructional modalities.

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.

Driving Requirement – This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
