Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ High School Summer School Teacher is responsible for facilitating credit recovery and initial credit courses for students in grades 9-12. This role focuses on helping students regain academic standing through blended learning models, individualized intervention, and rigorous alignment with Ohio’s Learning Standards and the OTES 2.0 framework.

Start Date: June 2, 2026

Planning session will take place on June 1st

Instructional Days Monday-Thursday

Hours 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

Salary: $29.69 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education or specific core content area.
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Teaching License (7-12) in the specific subject area (English, Math, Science, or Social Studies).
  • Proficiency in online learning management systems
  • Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks.
  • Licensure areas needed: Math, Science, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, Intervention Specialist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a "Dropout Prevention and Recovery" or Credit Recovery setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to re-engage at-risk youth and support graduation pathways.
  • Experience with Ohio Graduation Requirements and End-of-Course (EOC) exam remediation.

OTES 2.0 Instructional Planning

  • Plans high-quality, standards-based instruction that targets specific learning gaps identified in previous course attempts.
  • Utilizes student data and "Knowledge of Students" to create personalized learning paths that facilitate credit attainment.
  • Aligns all supplemental materials with the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.

Instructional Delivery and Engagement

  • Facilitates a blended learning environment, balancing digital curriculum with direct, small-group instruction.
  • Demonstrates content expertise by providing clear explanations and clarifying complex high school concepts.
  • Employs "Portrait of an Educator" principles by encouraging student innovation and self-directed learning.

Assessment and Data Analysis

  • Monitors High-Quality Student Data (HQSD) to track progress toward credit completion and mastery of core standards.
  • Conducts regular "check-ins" to ensure students are meeting the pacing requirements of the summer term.
  • Maintains accurate records of grades, attendance, and "time-on-task" required for credit flexibility and state reporting.

Classroom Culture and Management

  • Maintains a professional, focused learning environment that respects the maturity of high school learners.
  • Implements restorative practices and district discipline policies to manage student behavior effectively.
  • Creates a safe, supportive atmosphere that encourages students to persist through challenging academic content.

Professionalism and Communication

  • Communicates weekly with parents and school counselors regarding student progress and the likelihood of credit attainment.
  • Adheres to all state and federal confidentiality laws (FERPA) regarding student academic and behavioral records.
  • Participates in the required June 1 planning session and ensures all final grades are submitted accurately by the program end date.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • High school graduation requirements and Ohio’s Learning Standards for grades 9-12.
  • OTES 2.0 evaluation rubric and High-Quality Student Data (HQSD) requirements.
  • Blended learning pedagogy and credit recovery software.

Skilled in:

  • Managing multiple subject-area tiers within a single classroom setting.
  • Using data to drive intervention and provide differentiated support.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with adolescents and their families.

Ability to:

  • Motivate students who have previously struggled in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Adapt quickly to different learning styles and digital platform technicalities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and high expectations for all learners.

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
