Responsibilities

Evaluation and Treatment Implementation

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients across all age groups---from neonates to geriatrics---using age- and disability-appropriate assessments to establish baselines and develop individualized treatment plans that promote functional improvement.

  • Assess patient abilities and limitations including neuromuscular movement and stability, sensation, perception, muscle strength, range of motion, body mechanics, vocational and prevocational abilities (adults), and developmental milestones (pediatrics).

  • Evaluate patients' home and work environments and recommend necessary physical barrier modifications or ergonomic adaptations to support safety and function.

Treatment Delivery and Monitoring

  • Administer therapy consistent with the treatment plan, employing suitable procedures, equipment, and techniques within the scope of physical therapy practice.

  • Recommend, justify, and arrange for the delivery of therapeutic equipment as needed.

  • Continuously re-evaluate patients, monitor progress, and adjust treatment plans to ensure optimal outcomes. Make discharge recommendations when appropriate.

  • Collaborate and co-treat with therapists and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated, multidisciplinary care.

  • Facilitate the use of orthotic and prosthetic devices to enhance patient mobility and function.

Documentation and Communication

  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation of patient care, including medical records and correspondence with physicians. Ensure that all information is concise, legible, and relevant to the patient's plan of care, condition, treatment response, and functional outcomes.
