Critchfield Mechanical, Inc. of Southern California (CMISC) is a leading commercial mechanical and HVAC contracting company specializing in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning.
AspenBeach Consulting, CMISC’s Human Resources Consultant, has been retained to conduct a search for a talented mechanical and commercial building construction Safety Manager to join CMISC’s team and champion workplace safety across its operations. We will not consider warehouse, manufacturing, or refinery experience. CMISC is a union labor employer, but this position is a non-union management position.
About the Role
As Safety Manager, you will be the driving force behind the safety culture. You will design, implement, and oversee programs that prevent workplace accidents, ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA and Fed/OSHA regulations, and promote health and safety awareness among employees. This role also includes oversight of fleet maintenance and driver safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with CMISC’s Injury & Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP).
- Conduct site safety inspections and hazard evaluations.
- Investigate occupational injuries, illnesses, and accidents; provide lessons learned.
- Develop and deliver employee safety training programs (forklift, scissor lift, fall protection, silica, etc.).
- Maintain safety records, training matrices, and job safety analyses.
- Lead weekly tailgate meetings and safety committee participation.
- Oversee fleet safety: vehicle repairs, registration, insurance, and accident documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs, including Fall Protection, Heat Illness, Silica, Excavation, and Crane Rig Plans.
- Manage OSHA annual reporting and labor law poster distribution.
- Support new hire orientation and certification programs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in building and mechanical construction field supervision and safety. (Experience working for commercial HVAC mechanical subcontractors or general contractors will move you to the top of our prospect list.)
- CHST certification required.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety laws and compliance standards, including forklift, scissor lift, fall protection, silica, etc.
- Ability to assess hazards, act quickly in emergencies, and suggest preventive solutions.
- Excellent communication skills with field supervisors and labor forces.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical trades and crane rig plans preferred.

Experience:
- Safety Management or Mechanical Engineering Construction Field Supervision: Minimum 5 years (Required) (No Petroleum, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Retail or other industry outside Mechanical Engineering and Construction will be considered)
Language:
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
License/Certification:
- CHST Certification (Required)
- OSHA/CAL-OSHA
Work Location: In person, Huntington Beach, California, with regular travel to localized or regional job sites
