Description
Liberty Mutual is seeking a motivated attorney to join its Reinsurance Legal team within its Enterprise Legal group. Enterprise Legal is a dynamic subsection of Liberty's Global Legal & Compliance group, with a vast array of legal specialties including Reinsurance, Technology, Strategic Transactions & Governance, Employment, Public Affairs, Enterprise Legal Solutions, and Legal Enablement & Operations.
The Reinsurance Legal team is comprised of experienced reinsurance attorneys and other legal professionals who work collaboratively to support Liberty's reinsurance business initiatives across the entire enterprise. This role will provide quality legal advice and support across business functions to further Liberty's ceded and assumed reinsurance needs, while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Provides high quality oral and written legal advice in an efficient manner to internal clients.
- Advises clients on pragmatic solutions that align with legal and regulatory requirements and prudent risk management.
- Performs comprehensive research and analysis of reported cases, statutes, regulations, and other legal materials, often regarding issues lacking clear legal precedent, and renders clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice.
- Represents business partners in complex legal and business transactions, generally with minimal supervision, where the facts, law or precedents involved are subject to differing interpretations or are in dispute.
- Reviews, drafts, analyzes, interprets, negotiates and advises on various forms of reinsurance agreements involving Liberty's U.S. and non-U.S. companies including ceded and assumed reinsurance contracts (treaty and facultative), commutations, adverse development covers, and related documentation, such as contract amendments and reinsurance collateral arrangements.
- Participates in the reinsurance aspects of mergers and acquisitions including due diligence and appropriate structuring, document preparation, review, and negotiation as necessary.
- Assists with, and oversees, reinsurance disputes, arbitrations and audits, including management of outside counsel.
- Develops and maintains reinsurance resources, training programs and self-help tools, including playbooks, templates and regulatory summaries.
- Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction within the United States.
- Generally requires at least three years' experience as a practicing attorney.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, ability to manage multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
- Experience with assumed or ceded reinsurance and insurance transactions and coverage, including insurance coverage litigation or arbitrations, opinions or advice, is preferred but not mandatory for a candidate who demonstrates a keen interest in reinsurance matters.
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
