Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant
Member District Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant

Qualifications: (Meets criteria for 1, 2, or 3 and 4)
1.Bachelor’s degree in speech communication, speech-language pathology or communication disorders, speech sciences, or a bachelor’s degree in any other field with 24 credits in speech language hearing sciences
2.SLPA authorization
3.Completion of 100 clock hours of school-based practicum, under the supervision of a nationally certified SLP
4. Certified or eligible to be certified by the Colorado Department of Education

Reports To: Director of Exceptional Student Services or Designee

Job Summary:
Provide speech-language services, under the supervision and direction of a licensed SLP, to students attending PPBOCES member and/or associate member schools. Speech Language Pathology-Assistants within the PPBOCES are required to travel to assigned work sites in their own personal vehicles. Mileage Stipends are provided according to Board Policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation.
2.Assist the SLP during assessment of students, patients, and clients exclusive of administration and/or interpretation.
3.Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
4.Provide guidance and treatment via tele-practice to students, patients, and clients who are selected by the supervising SLP as appropriate for this service delivery model.
5.Document student, patient, and client performance (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP.
6.Program and provide instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
7.Demonstrate or share information with patients, families, and staff regarding strategies developed and directed by the SLP.
8.Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.\
9.Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.\
10.Assist with departmental operations (scheduling, recordkeeping, safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment).\
11.Promote early identification and early intervention activities.

Salary, Working Time, Vacation, Etc.:
This is a 179-day contract position based on the PPBOCES calendar, with earned leave in accordance with Board policy. The position is based on a 40-hour work week. Salary shall be determined by education and experience in accordance with the BOCES Licensed Salary Schedule. Travel to school districts on a weekly basis is required. Contracts are on an annual basis and subject to renewal or nonrenewal at the discretion of the Board.

  • Talking and hearing, walking, standing or bending is frequently required
  • Reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping or kneeling is also required
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
  • Travel to assigned job site(s) requires driving. Employee may be asked to drive to any member district at any time using personal or BOCES vehicle. Reimbursement is in accordance with board policy.
  • All required license(s) must be maintained in an active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment.
  • Any employee may be required to stay at or return to work during meetings and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the meeting and/or emergency.
