Job Title: Claims and Risk Control Manager Department: Business and Finance | Risk Management

The Office of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a multipurpose office based on the central campus in Columbus, Ohio. We support the research and academic mission of the university and medical center by managing risk, procuring and administering insurance, enhancing organizational resilience, and mitigating loss. It is our mission in ERM to advise and be a valued partner and current resource by creating innovative risk management solutions, delivering quality service and recommendations to address established and emerging risk, assisting in loss prevention and minimization, administering a robust insurance portfolio, enhancing organizational resilience and capabilities for resumption of operations, and providing proactive management and identification of risk and mitigation opportunities. The ERM staff is comprised of knowledgeable, dedicated, and skilled professionals. We are here to serve the risk management, insurance, and business continuity management needs of the Ohio State community.

The Claims and Risk Control Manager plays a pivotal role in the Office of Enterprise Risk Management, providing strategic leadership and expertise across all facets of the commercial insurance program. This position is responsible for overseeing the property and casualty claims process, managing risk control initiatives, delivering robust analytical and administrative support to insurance operations, and leading the administration and continuous enhancement of the risk management information system. The consultant acts as a key partner to both university and medical center stakeholders, driving organizational resilience and risk mitigation.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and six (6) years of experience working in the insurance industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Proficiency in problem solving, creativity, and program management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in information systems, risk management, business administration, or a related field. Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of insurance experience handling property, general liability, and/or casualty claims. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills. Experience utilizing information systems in a professional environment. Risk management experience in higher education, public sector, or a large, centralized business enterprise. Medical Center claims experience is a plus. Understanding of and exposure to enterprise risk management best practices.

Additional Information:

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $88,300 to $115,350 per year.
