What You'll Do As An Epidemiology Investigator 3:
Initiate, design, & conduct epidemiological projects & research pertaining to Emergency Medical Services (EMS), trauma care & the statewide trauma system:
Utilize statistical computer software packages (e.g., STATA, SAS, SPSS) to apply appropriate statistical analysis & methods; Tabulate & analyze data using standard & complex statistical measures; Determine appropriate statistical methods for specific data sets;
Collect, receive & reviews electronic data submitted to the EMS Incident Reporting System (EMSIRS) & Ohio Trauma Registry (OTR);
Provide technical advice & guidance on data collection methods & case findings to other employees & outside agencies;
Monitor analysis of data to predict increases or decreases in morbidity & mortality;
Serve as a resource person & technical advisor in areas of research, evaluation & reply to requests for information from internal &/or external customers;
Oversee &/or participate in completion of scientific reports; Assist in preparation of reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals &/or inclusion in reports to committees & state or federal agencies; Review technical & confidential case reports for accuracy & correctness;
Assist supervisor, physicians or other professionals in investigation & analysis of data pertaining to emergency medical services, trauma care & the statewide trauma system in Ohio;
Design & implement statistically valid surveys to assess EMS & trauma system issues;
Assist in evaluation of levels of success of prevention programs;
Participate in other research projects as assigned by supervisor;
Assist data managers in EMSIRS & OTR database management;
Develop data quality assurance plan in order to maintain the quality, accuracy, integrity & confidentiality of all records;
Develop computerized data processing programs to facilitate a database containing timely, complete, & accurate data;
Coordinate EMSIRS & OTR advisory committee meetings.
Participate in the cleaning, organization, & re-coding of EMSIRS & OTR data as needed to assist in the data linkage process;
Work in consultation with other data center staff to develop the matching/linking routines needed to associate all collected information;
Represent & promote EMS data systems at public & professional gatherings;
Draft &/or prepare reports, presentations & articles;
Participate in projects to support the effective collection, analysis & dissemination of public health information;
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in use of statistical computer software packages; 6 mos. exp. as epidemiology investigator with local or federal health agency; must be able to provide own transportation
- Or 6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigator 2, 65762; must be able to provide own transportation.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
