The Pain Procedure Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), GS-7 grade level is for select, complex LPN position, as established by each VA Healthcare facility. The scope of practice is defined by the competencies and training developed for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The LPN is aligned under Surgery Services Area and will be assigned to the Pain Procedure clinic. The GS-7
incumbent is dependent upon the validation of competence to perform pain procedures as required by the position.

The Pain Procedure LPN-0620-07 can assists the provider and/or RN to appropriately prioritize overall veteran care needs and adjust plans for care delivery. He/she makes astute observations of subtle, less obvious changes, both physical and emotional in patient's condition, and accurately and thoroughly documents care delivered and patients response to care that could require immediate modifications of the patient's care plan. The LPN-0620-07 appropriately seeks assistance and guidance by informing providers and/or RNs of changes in patient's condition requiring higher level intervention.
The Pain Procedure LPN performs, reports and records assigned duties including but not limited to:
- The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in the Pain Procedure area, or any other Surgery Services Clinic as assigned under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and reports to the Nurse Manager for the Surgery Service Clinics.
- The Pain Procedure LPN-0620-07 must demonstrate an exceptional degree of practical nursing knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex practical nursing care assignments within the Surgical Specialty procedures for a Veteran population with a variety of health care needs.
- Performs assigned nursing care responsibilities requiring the use of advance equipment, technology, or knowledge in procedures performed in the Pain Procedure clinic.
- Trained in the set-up and safe use of the of the equipment specific to Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA).
- Teaching/troubleshooting use of medical equipment in the Pain Procedure room.
- Provides patient and family education regarding the patient's condition, procedures, and preventive health care; reinforces health teaching and takes an active role in promoting healthy lifestyles
- Provides for supportive care of patients relative to transferring, escorting, and transporting patients or equipment as needed
- Performs, reports, and records assigned nursing care, including but not limited to clinical reminders as indicated, checking expiration dates of medications and supplies, obtaining equipment, and assisting with minor procedures and recognizing urgent or emergent patient care situations, and adhering to principles of infection control, safety, and universal
- precautions.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30AM-4:00PM.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
