Job Description


The Directional Drilling Operator is responsible for operating HDD and bore machine equipment used for fiberoptic conduit placement. This includes Ditch Witch drilling systems, excavators, jackhammers, pneumatic missiles, trenchers, compactors, and related underground construction equipment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate Ditch Witch HDD rigs, locating systems, vac units, and tooling.

• Operate supporting equipment including excavators, jackhammers, missiles, compactors, and trenchers.

• Read and interpret bore profiles, utility locate marks, and engineered plans.

• Perform pre-job walkouts and evaluate soil conditions and hazards.

• Control drill thrust, rotation, pullback, and drilling fluid systems.

• Perform potholing and expose utilities safely.

• Install conduit, handholes, and related infrastructure to specification.

• Complete daily production logs and safety forms.

• Perform routine maintenance on drilling and construction equipment.

• Ensure crew and site safety; enforce PPE and OSHA standards.

• Communicate with locator and field supervisor on bore path adjustments.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years HDD experience with required Ditch Witch equipment proficiency.

• Experience operating excavators, jackhammers, missiles, trenchers, and related tools.

• Ability to read construction plans and utility locates.

• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.

• Ability to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors.
