Job Description
The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law is currently seeking a Law Career Advisor. The ideal candidate will:
Counsel law students and alumni on job search strategies and procedures including resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, leveraging LinkedIn and social media, and navigating OCI and other job application processes.
Provide individualized career and professional development advising; encourage students to explore career options and engage in experiential learning.
Collect and enter data on students employment for ABA and NALP reporting.
Manage one or more long term programs as assigned by the Assistant Dean. These ongoing programs require collaboration across departments within the law school and require individual outreach to alumni, students and the community.
Develop and deliver various career-related and professional development presentations and projects including CD101 for incoming 1Ls and other educational and professional development programming. Duties will include determining which topics to address, finding panelists, coordinating consultants schedules, and creating marketing to students.
Collaborate and work with student groups and assist with student-sponsored career-related events. Serve as the Career Advisor working with the Assistant Dean for Career Development who meets with the SBA representatives for Career Development.
Strive to acquire continuing knowledge of the legal field including JDA and other emerging careers; build professional network with employers and alumni; develop job opportunities for law and related jobs by state and market sector.
60 % : Counsel law students and alumni on job search strategies and procedures including resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, leveraging LinkedIn, social media, generative AI and navigating recruiting periods and other job application processes. Provide individualized career and professional development advising; encourage students to explore career options and engage in experiential learning. Students seeking careers in patent related fields will be part of the advisee cohort. Manage advisee progress to support and encourage full employment during summers and immediately post-graduation. Collect and enter data on students employment for ABA and NALP reporting.
30% Professional Pathway creationjob and private sector relationship development. Strategically engage private law firms, primarily through alumni, both in and outside Ohio, to create pathways to long-term employment. Identify and develop connections in high interest areas of law, high interest employers, and high interest locations to support individual students. Increase smaller firm opportunities in Ohio and high interest locations outside the state. Assist CDO team in connecting students with those pathways and making appropriate introductions. Create and manage process/ program for bringing employers to campus to interact with students. Serve as CDO liaison to connect students with employer opportunities.
10% Develop and deliver various career-related and professional development group presentations and projects including CD101 for incoming 1Ls and other educational and professional development programming. Duties may include determining which topics to address, serving as presenter, identifying and arranging additional presenters, coordinating with the CDO team, and creating marketing to students.
Additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Career Development from time to time. Core job functions may change to meet goal of achieving full employment in an evolving marketplace.
Additional Information: MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. J.D. or Advanced degree in relevant field is preferred. 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
