This is a hybrid position located in Columbus Ohio and you will be required to come into the office two days per week.

As a Consultant, you'll work with investment accounting leadership on the most complex investment accounting functions or responsibilities. We'll count on you to provide consultation on the optimal practices to acquire, evaluate, interpret, record and analyze financial data used to prepare financial reports, documents and statements for various regulatory and statutory authorities and for internal management of all levels.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the research, analysis and implementation of new and/or revised investment accounting policies and procedures. Leads the development of recommendations that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.

  • Advises senior management on industry practices to acquire data, record, analyze and prepare the most complex investment accounting transactions and statements.

  • Develops and submits complex investment accounting and financial transactions required to ensure proper reporting.

  • Advises management of the accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.

  • Coordinates the development of actions/policies to deal with unfavorable financial situations as disclosed by investment accounting analysis.

  • Stays up-to-date on changes to GAAP regulatory requirements and functions as the specialist on changes which will ultimately impact the submission of financial documents, reports and other data. Provides consultation to management on the internal impact.

  • Acts as project lead in the development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned areas.

  • Guides the preparation and analysis of the most complex pro forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.

  • Provides consultation to management in applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.

  • Consults regarding supplemental reporting requirements for the company(ies) and business areas.

  • Coordinates and leads the preparation of complex financial information to provide to internal and external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies, as assigned.

  • Provides consulting on the preparation of special reports and presentations as advised.

  • Serves in a lead consultant capacity to other investment accountants on selected projects.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Investment Accounting Manager/Director; Individual contributor role, but may serve in a project lead capacity.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration. Accounting major and degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Progress towards CPA designation preferred.

Experience: Seven years of investment accounting experience, preferably in the insurance or financial service industries and within a specific product/business area.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP knowledge and functional business area regulatory requirements. Knowledge of industry practices in complex financial statement preparation including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries. Principles of taxation and the related impact on financial statement preparation. Investment accounting and/or business computer systems. Company organizational structure and products and services. Verbal and written communication skills for internal/external contacts. Ability to analyze, discover and solve investment accounting problems, to interpret financial documents and data and to analyze and interpret legal requirements. Project management skills. Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements relative to the impact on financial statement preparation and to the formulation of company or business area policies and procedures. Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related software using advanced techniques. Ability to apply investment accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to specialized, unique and/or nonrecurring complex problems.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
