Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The Associate Scientist, RD&I is responsible for supporting activities for product development efforts as a member of the product development team. These efforts enable new product development, technical service, cost savings, customer/sales sample requests, and providing technical & scientific support for the R&D department. This individual is self-motivated and can drive new technical initiatives which fit within corporate and/or R&D strategic plan.

Accountabilities:

· Use design-thinking in the development of new items or advantaged attributes for existing items leveraging ingredients, processing, and creativity that may result in more cost effective, better, and more competitive offerings. · With limited guidance, formulate food products utilizing all available food ingredients in industry. Identify potential formulation challenges among ingredients and processing and test solutions to mitigate. · Generate data through experiments that are designed to increase the team’s knowledge of our portfolio and identify opportunities. · Scale-up products from bench through commercial production.

· Work with cross-functional teams as required (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Quality, Packaging, Regulatory, etc) to deliver against project team goals.

· Serve in supporting role on larger products and other product development team efforts. Participate in maintaining good laboratory practice and environment.

· Draft standards and specifications using organizational software/templates for ingredients and finished products with minimal assistance. Generate preliminary labels as necessary. · Answer key technical questions through the use of experimental design and execution. Form conclusions and recommendations. · Write clear and concise technical reports, updates, and presentations

· Maintain a continuous improvement mindset to seek and propose new approaches, methods, system modifications to simplify work and increase productivity.

· Prioritize workload independently, or with alignment when necessary.

· Keep up-to-date on food technology advances, with an eye on leveraging application.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

Education Level:

· Bachelor’s degree in food science, or related field.

Experience:

· 1-4 years’ experience in a food technology related role or combination of experience and education.

· Experience in the CPG industry is preferred.

· Working knowledge of food science, ingredients, food processing, packaging technologies as they relate to consumer acceptability and direct ingredient-to-food contact surface interfaces, and project management.

· Working Knowledge of USDA and FDA regulations

· Ability to question and direct cross functional teams without direct reporting structure.
