This is a pivotal opportunity to guide one of the nation's premier cancer programsranked among America's Best Cancer Hospitals by U.S. News & World Reportand to advance its mission of delivering the highest-quality, patient-centered cancer care. Opportunity Overview Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer of The James, the CMO will be the senior clinical leader for medical staff affairs and clinical performance. The CMO will partner with leaders across The James, the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC), the College of Medicine, and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) to ensure world-class patient care, foster innovation, and strengthen the culture of collaboration, quality, and service excellence. The CMO role is an 80% FTE commitment. Role allocation includes: 30% clinical vision and oversight, 20% quality/safety/patient experience, 20% physician liaison, 10% philanthropy/community engagement, plus 20% active clinical practice. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Vision Partner with institutional leadership to define and implement the clinical vision and strategy for medical affairs at The James. Direct The James associate CMOs and medical directors across the cancer clinical enterprise. Champion equitable health across the clinical enterprise. Quality, Safety, & Patient Experience Drive excellence in patient safety, quality, outcomes, and experience across inpatient and ambulatory settings, aiming for top-decile national performance. Advance value-based care strategies to improve outcomes while stewarding resources effectively. Ensure quality, safety, and reporting metrics are aligned with national, state, and local quality benchmarks, financial incentives, and best practices. Physician Engagement & Development Ensure accountability to standards of professionalism, competence, and compliance. Collaborate with OSUWMC department chairs to support physician recruitment, retention, and program development. Promote physician wellness and address factors impacting morale and performance. Support innovative clinical educational programs for physicians, residents, students, and staff. Institutional & External Representation Serve as a visible leader for The James nationally, regionally, and locally. Collaborate with philanthropy and community partners as Medical Director for Philanthropy and Community Engagement.
