About the Position

The Lead New Business Underwriter, E&S is such a unique and meaningful role - it really takes the right person who is excited about helping business owners and their insurance agents & brokers find the best insurance program. Passionate about being able to deliver the best product that is tailored fit, to meet the needs of our targeted contracting clients.
This is a frontline and production-oriented role. Your focus will be to ensure that we are selecting reputable, good fit and profitable landscaping accounts. Your entrepreneurial mindset, intelligent use of forms, ownership and solution orientation will enable you to overcome challenges and continue to build on the very proud tradition of the Land Pro Program. Reflecting the important business contribution this position makes it reports directly to our Construction Program Manager and work closely with the SVP of Specialty Programs.
What You’ll Do
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead New Business Underwriter, E&S to join our team, responsibilities include:
- Profitably underwrite and grow an assigned book of new and/or renewal commercial business for contractors on multi line basis with an emphasis on Non-Admitted General Liability. The initial focus would be on landscaping contractors with future potential to have a key role in expansion into other industries.
- Work with Program Manager/Director to develop and execute go to market strategies for future expansion into contracting space.
- Develop productive and profitable relationships with the assigned agents and brokers through quick problem solving and a highly responsive and exceptional service experience.
- Quickly prioritize opportunities, evaluate and price risk and offer/negotiate customized coverage, deductible and terms and conditions based on the individual risk characteristics to best meet the insureds needs, in compliance with program guidelines and based on a rigorous analysis of the application, COPE, loss runs, risk control reports and the applicant’s financial position.
- Educate agents and brokers on the programs risk appetite and target market, the program product and service differentiations and encourage them to submit their accounts with highly desirable characteristics.
- Collaborate with Program Manager/Director to execute against new business and renewal retention strategies
- Prepare thorough and succinct referrals to Staff Underwriting and/or Carrier
- Maintain an established loss ratio and meet assigned production goals
- Other ad-hoc duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- Successful completion of technical insurance coursework toward such designations as CPCU, ARM and AU is preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of direct underwriting experience with focus on non-admitted General Liability line of business for contracting and related exposures.
- Strong track record of solving complex problems, designing creative solutions and producing profitable underwriting results and growth
- Familiarity with multiple rating and issuance systems
