We are looking for a Bookkeeping and Payroll Service Professional to join our team! The desired candidate will have 4+ years of multi-state payroll experience and bookkeeping experience. This is a great opportunity to onboard with a rapidly growing tax-focused CPA firm that services a wonderful roster of individual and small business clients throughout West Michigan!

Strategic CPA Accounting & Tax Solutions LLC is a Grand Rapids, MI CPA firm providing comprehensive accounting and tax services for businesses in the Grand Rapids area. We are a firm with a reputation for knowledge and integrity.

We currently have three different office locations—Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, and Wyoming, this job position will be filled in our Wyoming or Grand Haven offices.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage payroll operations for multiple U.S. entities, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries, swiftly addressing issues and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare, file, and remit payroll tax payments, including quarterly and annual federal, state, and local returns—via both electronic and manual submissions.
  • Maintain strict compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax laws.
  • Register new payroll clients with relevant tax agencies and configure their profiles in payroll systems.
  • Provide detailed payroll documentation and reports to support internal and external audits.
  • Oversee year-end processing, including accurate generation and distribution of W-2 forms.
  • Manage client bookkeeping by categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and communicating with the client to ensure accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Ability to perform full scale multi-client company bookkeeping.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 years + of hands-on experience in payroll and bookkeeping
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including experience registering for state income, unemployment, and local tax jurisdictions.
  • Proven ability to manage complex payroll functions across multiple entities while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
  • Holds a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher), demonstrating strong analytical and academic foundations.
  • Recognized as a reliable team player with excellent communication, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proficient in Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Excel, with experience in data analysis, reporting, and payroll reconciliation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Payroll Relief
  • Experience with Drake Accounting

Hours of Operation

Work week of 42.5 hours

Overtime during tax season (50-60 hours weekly)
