The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is the cornerstone college of The Ohio State University, with three mission areas dedicated to one essential purpose: We Sustain Life. CFAES is one college spread across three campuses, with our faculty and staff split evenly among the three campuses. Comprised of ten academic units including the School of Environment and Natural Resources and Ohio State ATI, plus Ohio State University Extension, CFAES has 22 bachelors degree majors, 26 associate degree majors, and 34 minors. The CFAES Marketing and Communications team serves as a strategic resource for the college. The team is responsible for setting marketing and communication strategies and plans that align with the initiatives and priorities of the college. The team supports the recruitment, retention, development, research, outreach, and issues management for the college. They are a group of strategic marketing and communication thinkers and doers who are both proactive and reactive, identifying opportunities and removing challenges to elevate awareness, enhance reputation and ultimately inspire choice for the college. The Branded Content Specialist amplifies the brand values of the college and enterprise. The Branded Content Specialist reports to the Brand Marketing Lead.
Position Summary
The Branded Content Writer develops compelling content that increases interest in and inspires choice for CFAES among key audiences and stakeholders. This role requires a writer who excels at creating short, engaging, and audience-centric marketing copy that elevates the CFAES brand across all channels. The Branded Content Writer will partner closely with the marketing strategy team and channel marketing experts to craft copy that is clear, snappy, and tailored to the diverse audiences we serve.
The Branded Content Writer will develop content for high-priority initiatives and campaigns, including student recruitment and retention materials, advertising, websites, social media, paid media, and email. They will also provide guidance on best practices for writing across digital and print channels, ensuring that all content is aligned with brand voice, tone, and messaging standards.
This position calls for a professional who has a keen understanding of how audiences engage with content and who can translate complex ideas into digestible, action-driving messages. The writer will be familiar with both traditional and digital marketing and communications, with a working knowledge of SEO, user experience, and usability best practices.
The Branded Content Writer will leverage analytics and market insights to refine messaging and ensure resonance with audiences. Above all, they will bring creativity, agility, and strategic thinking to content development, positioning CFAES as a leader and trusted voice across Ohio and beyond.
This role requires occasional travel across the state for meetings and events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field or equivalent experience and 2-4 years of relevant experience in higher education, agency or industry.
Desired Experience
Knowledge and familiarity with higher education; experience fostering a collaborative and creative work environment; demonstrated expertise in branded content writing and marketing copy that is short, engaging, and audience-centric; proven ability to elevate and advance a brand through clear, compelling messaging; experience in content strategy, content marketing, communications, and channel engagement; ability to write across mediums including recruitment pieces, advertisements, social media, web, email, and paid campaigns; strategic planning, implementation, and optimization experience; ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences; superior oral, written, editing, and presentation skills; proven ability to deliver projects that achieve strategic objectives, on time and on budget; and familiarity with SEO, user experience, and analytics to inform writing decisions.

The offer for this position will fall within the range of $51,500 - $67,250 and is based on internal equity, units available budget, and the candidates qualifications.
