Job Summary and QualificationsDemonstrates knowledge and understandingand puts into practice general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures.Reviews all policy changes as required.Adheres to all regulatory guidelines.
Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the options, and formulatean appropriate courseof action.Recognizes and performs duties in an independent manner withno supervision.Possesses the ability to assume and carry out tech-in-charge duties, including the ability to direct the activities of staff or functions, when necessary.
Demonstratesinitial and annual competency in allappropriate designatedlab sections within set deadlines.Accurately performsproficiencytesting when scheduled.Participates in continuing education activities.
Participates in all facility/corporate mandatory annual training within set deadlines.
Cooperatesin assisting the laboratory team in the completion of miscellaneous dutiesincludingspecimen receiving and putting away supplies when received in the department.
Organizes and completes daily tasks in assignedarea{s}.
Troubleshoots/resolves instrument problems and documents corrective actionappropriately; when necessary, performs instrumentation repairs.Investigates/resolves specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tool whenappropriate.
Performsquality control anddocumentsappropriately.Workswithin quality control limits andtrends, andfollows proper departmentprocedurefor corrective action.
Performs preventative maintenance and safety checks of equipment and documentsaccording to schedule.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to train new employees and/or students in general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures.
Assessescompetency of testing personnelaccording to regulatory guidelines.
Demonstratesknowledge and skill necessary to communicate with, provide care for, and assess dataappropriate tothe age of the patient served.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred -experience as a Medical Technologist/ Medical Lab Scientist
EDUCATION
Required-BachelorsDegree in Medical Technology,Biological, Chemical or Physical Science.NursingDegree will beconsidered with the required CLIA acceptable courses.
Preferred -BachelorsDegree in Medical TechnologyorLaboratory Science
CERTIFICATION
Required-Successfulcompletion of registry within 12months of hirefor anyone with a hire date of or after 1.1.2005. Continuing education tomaintainregistry/licensure asrequired.AMT and ASCP accepted.
Acceptable-Registry/Licensure in a specialty area will be considered.
Preferred-ASCP/ AMT/NCA/HEW.Continuing education tomaintainregistry/licensureasrequired.
