Job Description
A Pediatric Nurse, or Children’s Nurse, is a healthcare professional who provides essential medical support to children, often working closely with a medical provider, pediatrician, family doctor, or nurse practitioner. We are currently seeking a reliable, qualified, and detail-oriented Registered Nurse to join our exceptional team at Child Haven.
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering compassionate, trauma-informed care to children, adolescents, and infants—many of whom are part of the foster care system. You will provide medical support from birth through the teenage years, while also partnering with families, caregivers, and support staff to address health concerns, treatment options, and emotional needs.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and a commitment to working with vulnerable populations. Your ability to communicate effectively with children of various developmental levels, while creating a safe and supportive care environment, is essential to success in this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Identifies changes in a child's signs and symptoms and intervenes in emergency situations.
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal physical findings.
- Collaborate with medical providers and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
- Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
- Adjust and administer medications and provide treatments according to the medical provider’s orders.
- Knowledge of the nursing process and apply it to daily care of patients.
- Passing out appropriate medications to the appropriate patient.
- Responsible for medication counts and updating the MAR.
- Responsible for medication reconciliation.
- Educate patients and families on the patient’s medical condition.
- Teaching patients and families on how to actively participate in their care.
- Serves as a child advocate.
- Provides supportive care to dying children.
- Evaluates a child for signs and symptoms of abuse.
- Administers medication using age-appropriate guidelines.
- Determines a child's needs related to pain management.
- Analyzes situations to anticipate pathophysiological problems and detect changes in status.
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality in nurse/child relationships.
- Involves the child and family in the care plan and determines the child's needs based on a careful analysis of symptoms in relation to their growth and development.
- Performs physical examinations, such as measuring vitals, taking blood and urine samples.
- Explains to parents and families how to take care of their children and protect their health, including advising them on how to design their home for conditions such as paralysis and juvenile diabetes.
- Comply with FirstMed’s policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience
Preferred qualifications are those desired in addition to the required qualifications set forth above. Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- At least 2-5 years of experience working with children in a primary care setting
- At least 2-5 years of experience working in a not-for-profit organization.
- Experience as a registered nurse (RN).
- Pass the National Council Licensure Examination
- Un-encumbered RN license
- Licensure to practice in the state of Nevada
