This role can be filled in Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, Scottsdale, Arizona and remote associates will also be considered. If by an office location, this role will be a hybrid schedule coming into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This Specialist position is on the Technology Inventory Services team and reports to the Manager. In collaboration with business stakeholders and technology partners, this role will be responsible for advancing data governance principles within S&I, developing ServiceNow platform enhancements, ensuring high data quality throughout the data lifecycle and enabling effective reporting and analytics. This individual will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence, understanding of the data governance structure, standards, and procedures as it related to IT Asset Management, Configuration CMDB, and Application Portfolio Management. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert with deep knowledge of S&I sources, technical proficiency, and business acumen. Additionally, this position will encompass leveraging various means of automation (PowerApps), development (ServiceNow), to ensure data integrity, data accuracy, Technology Inventory Library dashboards, reports, and tools are effective, accurate, complete, and compliant as it relates to Nationwides Technology Inventory.

The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develops, executes, and maintains data analytics, data integrity, and automation as it relates to operational aspects of CMDB, IT Asset Management, and Portfolio Management which will make up the Technology Inventory - Provides technical support to implement the Enterprise Data Governance policy, vision, strategy, tactical plans and service offerings.

  • Execute on maintaining S&I CMDB quality and accuracy through data analysis, governance, automation, and analytics, working to improve data accuracy, validity, reliability, timeliness, relevance, completeness, and compliance.

  • Define and apply data quality validation rules, thresholds, and service level agreements to monitor health of data, ensuring business process and/or system changes are appropriately assessed for impact to ensure integrity of data over time.

  • Develop various platform enhancements within ServiceNows CMDB Workspace.

  • Perform root cause analysis for data quality issues, understanding business implications and communicating resolution approach and status to manage business partner expectations.

  • Develop collaborative relationships with Business and Technology partners, communicating key data governance expectations, activities, strategies, data impacts, and quality issues.

  • Partner with Data Engineers, Architects, Data Product Owners, and Integrated Reporting, as well as other Business/Technology organizations that use S&I data, to improve the integrity and usability of configuration data assets, working to improve data quality and accuracy, validity, reliability, timeliness, relevance, completeness, accessibility, and compliance.

  • Consult with SEPMs and Data Custodians that possess deep knowledge of application data, understanding how it is used within business processes and impact on desired business outcomes.

  • Strengthen cross-functional partnerships with other business areas to improve collaboration and transparency around data issue identification and resolution.

  • Maintain documentation of data assets so certified data can be accessed and translated for usage by end-users and assessed for impact of upstream/downstream changes.

  • Support the development of standards to identify critical data issues in terms of business impact, risk or opportunity and ensure data policy enforcement and compliance.

  • Execute on the S&I data governance strategic initiatives, in support of business priorities and in accordance with the TIS Data Governance standards, operating model, and roadmap.

What we're looking for:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in automated reporting, data governance, data analytics, or data management role.

  • Experience in ServiceNow Development preferred with an engineering mindset.

  • Experience with analytically intense projects, which confirm common understanding of the data.

  • Experience profiling data, detecting data quality issues, and defining data quality business rules.

  • Experience with data governance tools including Master Data Management, data dictionaries, and data lineage.

  • Experience in change management and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated expertise in bridging communication between IT and the business.

  • High knowledge of metrics applicable to data and associated analytical methods, company databases and their integration.

  • Experience working in Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, and other automation tools, data collections and reporting tools.

  • Knowledge of Application and Configuration architecture and terminology.

  • Experience with code deployment / code management of automation capability using PowerShell and, or Python products.

  • Experience in working in an ITIL-oriented organization, leveraging ITSM practices and methodologies.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise using reporting tools to perform data analysis (experience in SAS and Databricks preferred).

  • Strong technical acumen on both application and infrastructure experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of SDLC phases, best-practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides basic to moderate technical consultation on data product projects by analyzing end to end data product requirements and existing business processes to lead in the design, development and implementation of data products.

  • Produces data building blocks, data models, and data flows for varying client demands such as dimensional data, standard and ad hoc reporting, data feeds, dashboard reporting, and data science research & exploration

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Translates business data stories into a technical story breakdown structure and work estimate so value and fit for a schedule or sprint is determined.

  • Creates simple to moderate business user access methods to structured and unstructured data by such techniques such as mapping data to a common data model, NLP, transforming data as necessary to satisfy business rules, AI, statistical computations and validation of data content.

  • Assists the enterprise DevSecOps team and other internal organizations on CI/CD best practices experience using JIRA, Jenkins, Confluence etc.

  • Implements production processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it.

  • Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines for both streaming and batch requirements and builds out new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.

  • Writes and performs data unit/integration tests for data quality With input from a business requirements/story, creates and executes testing data and scripts to validate that quality and completeness criteria are satisfied. Can create automated testing programs and data that are re-usable for future code changes.

  • Practices code management and integration with engineering Git principle and practice repositories.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Data Leader.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education : Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred. Graduate studies in business, statistics, math, computer science or a related field are a plus.

License/Certification/Designation : Certifications are not required but encouraged.

Experience : Three to five years of relevant experience with data quality rules, data management organization/standards, practices and software development. Experience in data warehousing, statistical analysis, data models, and queries . One to three years experience with Cloud technology and infrastructure including security and access management. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills : Data application and practices knowledge. Moderate to advanced skills with modern programming and scripting languages (e.g., SQL, R, Python, Spark, UNIX Shell scripting, Perl, or Ruby). Good problem solving, oral and written communication skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
