Established in 1994, this year Gentle Transitions celebrates over 25 years as the pioneer of a very special relocation service for older adults in California, Phoenix & Las Vegas.
Family owned & operated, over 75 W-2 Move Manager & Assistant employees now work with older adults and their overwhelmed families deal with the challenging transition from family homes to all types of retirement living. Although we primarily serve older adults, we will work with any adult who wants to move anywhere in the U.S.; but doesn't have the time, or desire, to do it themselves!
The loving son of Mercedes Gunderson, who started one of the original such companies in America, Greg Gunderson is himself a founding member of The National Association of Senior Move Managers (www.nasmm.org). He is also the recipient of NASMM's 2017 Margit Novak Award for pioneering excellence, in honor of his Mom, for her sorting process which is largely considered the industry standard today.
Our employee Move Managers & Moving Assistants work in trained teams, at our clients' direction, to sort, downsize; floor plan on our magnetic kits; then, pack and completely resettle into their new home -- typically in just two days for local moves, and our clients can choose to sleep in their own bed every night!
Our ever-growing employee Move Managers & Assistants are nationally background-checked, trained by our Operations Director and fully insured. We choose to work with senior-friendly moving companies locally and our clients enjoy their lowest rates. For Interstate moves, we partner with reputable relocation services through NASMM.
We also assist with disposal of unwanted items through a referral to the proper person to sell them, assisting with scheduling donations to requested charities; or packing & arranging for items to be sent to clients' friends or relatives.

I've been with Gentle Transitions for over 14 years -- starting as a Move Assistant, then as a Move Manager for a short time before taking over the Marketing for So. Cal. I also assist with new candidate screening these days. I'd say that it's the perfect job for anyone who wants to do something rewarding that gives back to overwhelmed older adults, while staying in control of their work schedule. Although W-2 employees, our staff have the option of identifying their personal service area & declining any job offered.
