“DUBOIS, WYOMING GRABS HONORS AS A TOP TEN WESTERN TOWN”, True West Magazine
Back in the 1890’s outlaw Butch Cassidy spent a lot of time in the Rocky Mountain town of Dubois, Wyoming. Visitors today will find that it hasn’t changed much. Dubois -population 962- still features the EA Ranch, where Butch sometimes worked as a ranch hand. It’s one of several historic dude ranches in the area. The surrounding areas are still teeming with wildlife, including bighorn sheep and elk. Anglers fish for trout in the local rivers and streams where Kit Carson and Jim Bridger trapped beaver.
“Dubois is one of those places that’s escaped the ravages of time” say True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell. “That’s no accident. It takes a lot of determination by local folks to keep their heritage intact. They are most deserving of recognition”.
You will also enjoy visiting the National Big Horn Sheep Museum or a hiking/driving tour to see the petroglyphs.
